Hurry up Spring!!!

The other day while I was checking out Garance Dore and The Sartorialist, I realized I hadn’t written about fashion in a long time. It’s so funny that this winter seems so neverending and in the fashion world, Spring 2011 has already been shown and done and we are already into pre-fall 2012. Hello, the snow of Fall/Winter 2010 hasn’t even melted yet!

It’s just so fascinating to me that there are people (the stylemakers) who dictate what is going to be “in” in the coming seasons, when the season has not even come yet. Reading those fashion blogs reminded me that we will one day get out of this dreary winter and bloom again in the spring…And who doesn’t want to shed these thick parkas and mitts and put on some capris and sandals! ?

This year I’ve decided (well actually I guess it was decided for me) that my look is going to be “70’s bohemian” for day….and “70’s evening glam” for night.

So what does this mean? Well, let’s see…when I was in Hawaii this past January, I picked up some fab (and cheap!) Calvin Klein faded jeans (which if I don’t cut them will suit the bellbottom-y look I think) I just need some kind of peasant top and some platform-y suede clogs or sandals… Oh, I also want to do the nautical look…which means stripes and a lot of navy and white (with splashes of red or yellow thrown in for good measure). I’ll forgo the sailor hat (that I used to totally have when I was a teen. ).

For evening wear, I’m loving that Studio 54 evening look, all glam and whatnot (haha I said “whatnot”) with one-piece strapless jumpsuits with gartered bottoms in satin or silk, in electric colors (much like that DVF pic I posted earlier) .

I guess florals are also in (but florals always seem to be “in” in the springtime) BUT they are even more awesome when the florals are giant flower belts (a la Marc Jacobs). OMG, this belt is so fab!

I still also like that Madmen-esque, ladylike look too…is that still in?

I once saw this picture of Jackie O (actually she was Jackie Kennedy then!) in the early days of “Camelot”, where she wore this peach sleeveless, v-neck dress, that had a bow at the waist and white gloves. Now, I know she had fabulous style and wore even better outfits after this (hello pillbox and pucci, anyone?) But this outfit stuck in my mind for some reason. I loved it!

And was so inspired by it. In fact, this was the color of my grad dress…and I also wore white gloves! LOL. I should totally look for that pic.

Anyways, it looks like this is going to be a fantastic fashion season…once the snow melts.
