I love it when a plan comes together!

So do you ever go to a restaurant and enjoy the food so much that you wish you could have it all the time? Or at least whenever you feel like it? As much as you'd like to though, usually the wallet doesn't permit that. So what  do you do?

Well, I'll tell you what me and my husband do: we (read: HE) attempt(s) to re-create it at home! We start out by googling the recipe online. Then we venture out and buy the ingredients (and any kind of kitchen utensil that we might need). Then the cooking...Sometimes it doesn't work out. (right now he's saying "When did I make something that did NOT work out?!"...) But more often than not, it totally does work out. And the results are AWESOME... well, after the first attempt, it's awesome. We call the first attempt the "Taste Test". My husband places the dish in front of me and watches expectantly, as I take the first bite. Then, we (read: I) make comments on how it can be improved for the next time. (At this point, he usually rolls his eyes and gives me the "Why can you not just enjoy what I make" look). The second time he makes it, it's perfection. This has made him kinda cocky in the kitchen. Not that it isn't warranted, but still.

The latest re-creation he's done is Wolfgang Puck's Smoked Salmon Pizza. We first had this pizza in the Denver airport during a layover to Vegas. Delicioso! The crust was thin and crunchy topped with a cool and creamy dill cream sauce that had a hint of spice. It had sweet red onions, salty little bursts from the capers and of course, the light and flavorful smoked salmon. SO good. So...today he decided that this was what he was going to make. He picked up some pizza dough from Calabria (a little italian store close to his work) and the rest of the ingredients (sour cream, fresh dill, jalepeno pepper, lemon and of course smoked salmon) and our newest kitchen utensil: a rolling pin! He even found the recipe online.

The first attempt was...Delicioso! Though I still had a couple of comments (ie. poke the pizza dough so it doesn't bubble! put on a few more red onions! etc...) all in all the first attempt was great!.  So here it is, I just had to take a picture:

And yes, of course the onions match the placemat. Duh.

  1. Any time you need a taste tester, I'll be there! Make sure you have some cheesecakes that need testing.
